TOM MAEDER
Sound Engineer

Welcome to the website of sound engineer Tom Maeder

In 2012 Tom started a small studio which over the years became a facility with corrected acoustics and great hardware which allows for digital/analog mixing and mastering. Recording of vocals can be done in a separate vocal booth.

Tom is self-taught and is constantly working on his audio engineering skills for the benefit of his current and future clients. In 2015 he joined a Masterclass at Fab Dupont's Flux Studios in New York City with the great Mick Guzauski! In 2016 he was one of the 3 winners of a Puremix.net mixing contest. In 2017 he successfully completed 2 courses with Puremix.net in order to improve his Pro Tools skills. Tom is open to work on any genre of music!

In April 2018, Tom participated in a 5-day Mastering Academy Seminar in Liège, Belgium, with Friedemann Tischmeyer and hosted by Dan D'Ascenzo at Leftright Audio.

Please go to studio for my activities as a freelance sound engineer.

About:

Tom Maeder was born in Geneva, Switzerland. Lived in Spain and the United States in early childhood. Through his parents, he was exposed to classical music and Jazz. Early on, classical music taught him the sound of music and some of the theory… He was introduced to music at the age of 6 and at the age of 8 started playing classical clarinet. Shortly after completing high school and the military service in the army band, classical clarinet moved to the background. He decided to move to alto saxophone and started playing in local Jazz workshops and Big Bands.

In 1993, Tom moved to Basel to complete a masters degree in Biology. During this time he continued playing in various local bands, broadening his musical skills and discovering new styles.

In 1997 he traveled to Cuba and took 3 weeks of intensive saxophone training. Back in Switzerland his musical activities started growing as he dropped part of his day job. He started playing professional projects and shows. He started working with swiss artists such as Nubya, Tanja Dankner and Phil Danker and played with local bands. Tenor saxophone rapidly became his main instrument.

He recorded horns with Famara in 2004 and co-founded the electro jazz quartet Injaztigator in 2006 with which he released 3 albums (2006, 2009 and 2013). In 2007 he joined Michael Fleiner’s Septeto International (latin jazz) with whom he played for several years and toured through Spain, France, Hungary, Slovakia, Cuba, Switzerland and Austria and played on two albums. In 2009 he joined the swiss salsa band Picason, further exploring latin music.

In the summer of 2012 he had the opportunity to tour with swiss Pop Artist Caroline Chevin and later in the year toured in Hong Kong and China with the fusion band Bconnected. In 2011 a call came from Afro Beat Band Professor Wouassa,  looking for a sub on baritone. Over 70 concerts later he now plays tenor saxophone in the 11-musicians band. The third album is due sometime in 2019.

In 2013 he participated in the musical Fame production at Stadttheater Basel. In 2016 he joined bass player Pierangelo Crescenzio for a series of concerts featuring trombone legend Fred Wesley and Paulo Mendonça for a show. In 2017 he joined Adedeji Adetayo Afreekanism for a show. More recently Tom started working with Salsa Artist Josbel Figurita.

Tom plays tenor, alto, soprano and baritone saxophones, flute and clarinet.
